Coach

I wanted to lose weight for my best friend's wedding in 2013, so joined slimming world, started running/jogging and doing couch to 5k in. I always had an interest in sport. I ran for county and been involved in athletics at school.

This was also the first time I entered a gym. I had a consultation when I started, this was when I first met Warren. I'd tried classes and cardio, but weight training was alien. Warren changed that by coaching me on technique and the principles of weight training.

I found weightlifting, I never heard of it, I learned to Snatch, Clean and Jerk. It became my passion and I’ve never looked back since. The goals I had then to now couldn’t be more different.

My focus on my weight changed to how strong I could become, I found how capable I am it made me more confident too. Weight training has helped to change my body and mindset. I became a coach at Teesside Barbell Club because I want to teach and inspire others to start their own journey of fitness like me.

Head Coach

Over weight as a kid and bullied because of it, I had anxiety, body image and confidence issues... I wanted to change. But everyone doubted and laughed, told me I had no chance! I knew what I wanted but not how to achieve it...

At the gym, I just mimicked others, doing what looked cool, I didn't really have a clue. I became frustrated, I wasn't seeing results. I'd get bored easily doing the same things, I'd tried running, swimming, Thai boxing, gymnastics even break dancing.

I spent hours on google and youtube, absorbing content. I began to understand training vs working out and started testing it.
People began notice the changes, they asked what I was doing. This is when I decided to become a trainer. I wanted to teach and coaching people to get results that didnt lapse after 30 days.

In 2013 I became a trainer in a commercial gym. There was no value towards members results. They focused on numbers, sales and getting more people in the gym, then leaving them with no direction. I quit in 2015 and started Teesside Barbell Club. Strength became my passion!

Our objective simple, teach and coach the principles of movement, training and nutrition. Focusing on strength and conditioning, we use structured training with guided nutrition. We value our members becoming self-sufficient and accountable so added a mindset element to reshape thinking. Through TBC, we hope to teach there are no limits on their potential.
