what the point of lifting...?
Many people has access to the gym, but they avoid weight training for a number of reasons...
#1 Don't know what to do... #2 Afraid of hurting myself #3 Don't want to get 'too big'
Many people have a fear of going to the gym and being watched or judge by others. They second guess whether they're doing things right, this leads to a fear of trying or sticking to what they know... Cardio and/or machines which give a simple description of the targeted areas you'll work.
Some fear injury, thoughts of the first could lead to the second. Not knowing what you're doing can lead to a fear of getting hurt if you try. Sometimes people are willing to try but stop short when the 'burning' muscle sensations start. They don't push their body enough to change in the ways they want.
The fear of putting on 'too much size' has led many people not to try weight training. The truth is it takes a heavy combination of training intensity, calorie intake, focus and commitment to increase the bodies frame for most people. Weight training is a great way to change the physical appearance of the body with greater definition, strength and all round health benefits with the correct training methods.
Weight training is about more than just lifting heavy weights, getting bigger and stronger. It's about the sense of achievement, inspiring confidence and knowing that you have more potential than you ever thought possible.
Whether your doing it to get strong, fit or just lose some weight, weight training has benefits beyond just physical. The ability to carry out daily tasks with ease is common, a better mood and improved confidence in every situation. Just knowing your a bad arse and can do things you never thought possible. It's become so much more than standing on the scales to check your relationship to the earth's gravitational pull...
